Coworking space and shared kitchen in Pittsburgh

Fulton Commons is a shared workspace—a coworking space and shared kitchen—on Pittsburgh’s North Side in historic Manchester.

The coworking space offers light-filled offices and shared spaces for individuals and organizations seeking space away from both conventional office buildings and home.

The shared commercial kitchen provides kitchen equipment access, outsourced facilities management, and additional services for new and growing food businesses to use as their production facility.

Coworking Space

Our coworking space offers light-filled offices and shared spaces to individuals and organizations seeking space away from both conventional office buildings and home.

We are in a tree-lined historic neighborhood, on a park, in a renovated gem of a building. The building’s interior design is unique, both visually and spatially, drawing on our 30+ years curating and designing spaces. The membership composition is unique as well since we’re both a coworking space and shared kitchen and all kitchen members are also coworking members. We regularly host food-related events.

The design of the coworking space combines natural materials with an abundance of natural light and ample private and communal spaces to foster creative collaboration. Our belief is that the appeal of a workspace—how productive one can be and how pleasant it is to be there—comes from thoughtfully curating materials, lighting, and spatial configuration.

This is the space we wish we had access to throughout our careers.

Shared Commercial Kitchen

Food business owners such as packaged food product makers, bakers, prepared meal providers, early-to-mid-stage caterers, and food truck operators use the shared commercial kitchen at Fulton Commons as their production facility. Multiple businesses—as the name implies—work out of the facility which is how we keep costs down relative to having your own space.

What We Do
Fulton Commons provides and manages the physical kitchen infrastructure—cooking equipment, storage space, prep and cleaning areas, and more—for operating a permitted food business, on flexible terms, as part of a broader network of food and other entrepreneurs.

A significant obstacle to launching or scaling a food business is the required financial investment, lead time, and long-term commitment to open one’s own facility. A second obstacle is that, once one’s facility is open, in addition to focusing on the core of one’s business, one is spending substantial time and money managing their facility. At Fulton Commons, the kitchen is already set up and we manage the tedious—and expensive—tasks like equipment maintenance and deep cleaning; providing and managing utilities; providing gloves, towels, and cleaning chemicals; and more.

How It Works
Each kitchen member company has their own dedicated prep station with unlimited access to the facility after an initial orientation period. There is scheduling software for booking time on specific pieces of cooking equipment. Refrigerated, frozen, and dry storage space is available to support your production. Each member has their own permit with Fulton Commons as their shared kitchen.
